734. September / tama-musi
Coming September, tama-musi's life comes to an end.
These were lying on the ground at the square in front of my place.
Different from semi, ants do not try to disassemble tama-musi. Thus they are left lying on the ground for a long periond of time.
733. Simousa upland
A vertical cross-section of the table land on which this area is developed.
This appeared by the construction of a new facility for caring the aged.
Top layer is about 3m deep, consiting of dust constantly supplied by the wind from the areas close to Mt. Fuji, Mt. Asama, etc.
This is the so-called Kantou loam layer.
The lower part is seabed sediment.
This cross-section is said to be the same all the way from Matudo and Kasiwa in the west of Tiba-ken to the east around Tougane.
The only difference is in their elevation. This upland is gradually slopes down from the east to the west.
When I drive to Ku-jyu-ku-ri-hama from my place, I feel the gradual ascent whichever roads I choose. In fact, the towns of Tougane and Matuo are just behind the 60m-high cliffs.
This bodily feeling is difficult to verify on the ordinary maps.
This must be because of the fact that the inclination of the East Kantou tableland is very small, 35m height-difference for 25km drive.
HOWEVER,
Processing the Geo. Survey Institute maps by a software called KASHMIR 3D generates this map.
It is clear at a glance that the vast upland is inclined toward the west.
This software was orginally made personally by a mountain lover.
WELL, a real great work.
Hats-off!
732. A gama ear
Again the season gama ears appear has come.
The stuff like a bamboo stick on top of the ear is the remnant after the male flowers fell off.
731. SSN peak?
It is hard to believe that several years ago, the period of zero sunspot number had continued for many months. Now, it has been close to 300.
BUT, for the 18 MHz band, it is not such a nice condition that DX stations are coming in a great number. This time, the past example looks not to be applicable.
The SSN has been neraly 300 and the maximum compared with the past records.
Majority of the sunspot are close to the Sun's equater, a typical characteristic at the SSN peak period.
In any event, the SSN seems to be in its peak period for a year or so.
730. Summer has come!
Trunk of a konara at the square in front of my place.
Took this shot quickly so that I do not disturb the children trying to find out these beetles.
A ruri-tateha.
Hardly noticeable when it closes the wings.
